Black Friday has its origins in America and is considered the starting signal for the Christmas shopping season.

Thanksgiving is traditionally celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays in America where family and friends come together. The highlight of the day is a big feast. The day after Thanksgiving has often become a bridge day. Many Americans use the day to do their first Christmas shopping.

Retailers recognized this trend and launched special offers especially for this day. Many stores open in the early hours of the morning and outdo each other with special offers, discounts and giveaways.  Black Friday has developed into a veritable shopping event.

Thanks to Apple, Black Friday came to Europe in 2006. Apple launched a special Black Friday sales campaign that year, which definitely brought the trend to Europe. In the years that followed, more and more retailers adopted this trend.

What has long been a tradition in the USA is still quite new in Germany.

Black Week is the prelude to Black Friday. The sales promotions no longer only take place on this “Black Friday” itself, but are extended to the whole week. During these weeks you can already find some bargain highlights. Similar to the sale, you can already benefit from unbeatable prices and discount campaigns.

Why “Black Friday” is actually called Black Friday cannot be said with certainty. The most popular theories are related to financial sales:

• Dense crowds of people roam the shopping streets in cities on this day. Which from a distance look like a black mass moving through the city on this Friday. This could also be an allusion to the chaos on the streets after the stock market crash of 1929.
  
• Another approach is that traders have the chance to make enough sales on that day to be in the black instead of in the red.
  
• Another theory suggests that the traders' hands were black from counting so much money on “Black Friday”.

Let's be honest with each other. You don't save money by spending money. However, if you have been planning to buy a new TV, a new laptop or something else special for a long time, Black Friday is definitely worthwhile. On no other day is it possible for customers to benefit from such good discounts and offers as on Black Friday.

Black Friday is followed by Cyber Monday. The biggest difference between these two sales campaigns is that Cyber Monday takes place exclusively online.

Cyber Monday is a marketing campaign by online retailers in response to the high sales achieved by traditional retailers on “Black Friday”. This launch of the Christmas sales was not simply left to the stationary retail trade and so a separate online shopping day was created.
