"Do you need any help?"
Safety technology: Protection for office and home
Both company buildings or offices, as well as private buildings, are increasingly being targeted by burglars. In order to make it difficult for unauthorized persons to enter your property, there are a number of tools in the field of safety technology. With alarm systems, surveillance cameras or door and window protection you can protect yourself from burglary. In our guide you will learn everything you need to know to keep your buildings safe.

What is security technology?
Safety technology does not only include securing windows and doors against burglary or the safe storage of valuables . There are security-related areas that have nothing to do with theft and burglary, and where security needs to be guaranteed in other ways. These include escape and rescue routes in public buildings, industrial facilities and in the health care sector, as well as the monitoring of rooms and outdoor areas.
Safety technology refers to the totality of all technical devices for the defense against all conceivable dangers to humans and their property. The safety technology used is as diverse as the potential hazards. In many cases, the basic function of safety and monitoring technology is that a sensor monitors an area for which exactly preset parameters apply. If a parameter is exceeded or fallen short of, the electronics behind it emits a signal that triggers further processes.
A simple example: A magnetic contact is activated by an alarm system and detects "window wings closed" – signal output of the system: "None". If the window sill is moved out of position when the alarm system is active, there is a pulse to the system which subsequently triggers further processes, such as "siren on", "additionally lock safety door" or "make automatic call to security service/police".
Burglary protection dossier 2016
In 2015*, a total of 167,136 home theft incidents were reported by police, an increase of 9.9% compared to the same period last year.
So if the equivalent is more than 19 times per hour per day, somewhere in Germany, it is perhaps a bit more difficult for potential burglars to do their day-to-day business in the future.
* preliminary data – official figures were presented by the Federal Ministry of the Interior on May 23, 2016.
What safety technology do you find at Conrad?
The selection in the Conrad shop enables the installation of safety technology in almost all possible areas:
Alarm systems
Alarm systems are available in a wide range of applications, from starter packs to complex systems that are integrated into smart home or office environments. A distinction is made between wired alarm systems and those based on radio technology in terms of their technical approach.
Under this menu item you will also find various materials for marking secure areas.
Escape Route Signs
Illuminated and non-illuminated signs for escape and rescue routes are combined in this category of safety technology. In addition, emergency lighting is partly combined with information signs and backup batteries for power failures. These elements are offered for various mounting types.
Hazard Detectors
Hazard detectors are warning devices used in conjunction with liquid or gaseous media: Water, gas, fire and smoke detectors. In addition, power failure detectors as well as the US company's "Nest Labs" smart home system from California are added as a separate menu item.

Personal & Child Safety Products
In the area of personal protection you will find electronic but also simple mechanical solutions, such as: Breathing masks as well as safety glasses and helmets including accessories, fire extinguishers, pepper sprays and child safety devices for attachment to sockets. Electronic products include baby monitors, GPS trackers, night lights and PMR radios (PMR is the abbreviation of "Private Mobile Radio" with a range of about 4 to 10 kilometers).
Door & Window Protection
In the field of door and window safety technology, the mechanical and electronic sectors are also represented: On the one hand, you will find code locks and intercoms, on the other hand lock cylinders with keys, door and window locks and door spies. The latter is also available as electronic versions.
Protecting Valuables
In the menu for protecting valuables you will find mailboxes, wallets and cassettes, banknote verifier and counter, key chains and key boxes, safes of various price and security classes as well as padlocks. Padlocks Yes, there is also a Bluetooth or fingerprint sensor, so it is packed with electronics.
CCTV Cameras
The following products are available for video surveillance:
- Wireless video surveillance for wireless connection of camera and monitor
- IP video surveillance for integration into existing networks and smart home environments
- Wired video surveillance as a complex but very secure way of monitoring by sight
- Camera dummies offer basic protection, as they look deceptively similar to real cameras and simulate a function due to flashing LEDs and similar
- Mini-cameras and camouflaged surveillance cameras fit into the appearance of the environment and are not perceived as quickly
- Video surveillance ABUS: System of the well-known security provider
Which technical data are important when purchasing safety technology?
The first requirement should be the stability of the mechanical design, with the appropriate electrical parameters for the installation environment. Plan the purchase carefully to retrofit components if necessary.
Think about the power consumption too! Backup systems are usually permanently connected to the network.
Many vendors add their own apps to their components.
What should you pay attention to when using safety technology?
When using video and audio monitoring, a number of legal provisions on data protection and the protection of personal rights must be observed.
Safety technology and its accessories are suitable for certain areas of application (indoor, outdoor, special environmental influences). Failure to observe this may result in false alarms, irreversible damage and complete failure of the system.
Wireless alarm systems operate on a protected frequency band. Nevertheless, defective components of electrical products, such as fans or aerial amplifiers, can interfere with radio transmission – as well as deliberate and intentional interference from the outside.
Safety technology should have batteries or rechargeable emergency batteries in case of an emergency (not for continuous operation).
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by non-compliance with the manufacturer's specifications. The manufacturers do not assume any liability for consequential damage.
Ensure that there is a properly installed power supply.
On industrial sites, the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial workers' society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
Keep access data, especially access codes or passwords, safe and inaccessible to third parties.
