The ABB Safeball is an innovative and ergonomic machine control system. It consists of a ball with two built-in push buttons, one on each side. A simple but noticeable click signals the conscious triggering of the push buttons. To start or operate a machine, both buttons must be pressed at the same time. If one or more push buttons are released, a stop command is issued to the machine. The ergonomic shape of the safety ball is perfectly adapted to the human hand and thus supports the natural gripping reflex. The Safeball offers a high degree of tamper protection and thus reduces the risk of injury. The simple connection to the AS-i bus and the fact that no cover of the control parts is required make the Safeball flexible to mount. ABB safety balls can be used for single-handed or two-handed applications. Two-hand operations are used, for example, on presses and semi-automatic machines with manual feed.
