An original icon on German tracks
Today, when one of the many Wismar rail buses, which have been preserved, enters the stage, even steamers are stepping into the background. "Pig snout" is called these two-axle railcars, which kept many small and side-railways from going out in the time of the global economic crisis. The design was brilliantly simple and therefore extremely cost-effective: One took a simple welded car box and built a large-scale engine from the motor vehicle construction for each direction of travel. As in the case of road trucks, there was a front end of the engine, known as the "Schmuzzle" in the popular name. And for luggage or small goods most of the wagons were given a roof rack. The wagon factory Wismar built 57 specimens between 1932 and 1941. Railway workers and passengers loved their quaint crawlers and gave them the nickname "Pig snout". Nowadays the Wismar railway buses enjoy absolute cult status. Not only for this reason a snout belongs in the stock of every model railway modeler. By the way, after 1949, the Deutsche Bundesbahn had briefly three Wismarer in its vehicle park. As such, the red "Pig snout" fits even on every epoch-III system.
Modelled after: Diesel railcars CVT-34 "Wismar railbus" (type "Hannover A") from DRG. Colour: Wine red/ivory, epoch II (condition starting from the end of 1935 to 1947) , operating number VT 135 079, Saarbrücken.
