Flushing and overprinting is a protection method used on 4, 4X, and 12 housings (recommended minimum IP54). The housing is first flushed to remove all internal explosive gases or dust. As soon as this is done, the housing is pressurized with a protective air or inert gas supply. This provides positive internal housing pressure to prevent external explosive gases or dust from entering the housing. The two methods offered for flushing and overprinting are leak compensation and continuous flow.

Leak compensation maintains positive pressure by compensating for losses. The system consists of control unit and relief valve. Certification for Y and Z models: • Flush (internal) or external mounting models • Local visual alarm indicator and dry contact outlet for remote alarm • Normally recommended for housings with a volume of 60 Ft3 or less. Type X certification model: • Interrupts power when pressure is lost or not reached • Provides automatic flushing • External mounting • Local visual alarm indicator and dry contact outlet for remote alarm • Normally recommended for housings with a volume of 60 Ft3 or less.

Continuous flow provides for excess pressure through a continuous flow of protective air through the housing. The system consists of control unit, calibrated outlet port and relief valve. Certification models Type Y and Z: • Flush (internal) or external mounting models • Local visual alarm indicator and dry contact outlet for remote alarm • Normally recommended for housings with a volume of 17 Ft3 or less.
