Description

In industry and mechanical engineering, drive belts are indispensable. The maximum service life of a drive belt depends on the optimum belt tension. A failure of an engine caused by belt damage can result in significant costs. Regular checking of the belt tension is therefore essential to prevent engine and belt damage. The belt tension of drive belts can be measured quickly and reliably with the digital belt tension meter. This pre-tension meter is used for the particularly effective testing of belt systems through frequency measurement.

The belt tension meter is an optically measuring maintenance tool for determining the belt tension. This pre-tension meter consists of a display unit and a sensor head. The belt tension gauge sensor head is attached to a swan neck. The flexible gooseneck allows the sensor head of the belt tension meter to be positioned flexibly and the belt tension of drive belts to be measured in hard to reach areas.
The belt tension gauge measures the belt's torque and frequency when stationary. A small pulse on the belt is enough to swing it. Thanks to its sensor, the belt tension meter detects the natural frequency of the belt generated in this way and visualizes it on the large, illuminated display. From the belt frequency and the optionally entered belt length and belt mass, the pre-tension meter can directly determine the belt tension force. The belt tension meter allows the user to determine the belt tension in the system to be controlled from pulleys and take immediate action to adjust the tension to the setpoint. The belt tension measurement requires high precision, and the pre-tension meter performs it quickly and reliably.

The user can choose between two units of measurement when using the belt tension meter: N (SI unit) and Pound-Force (US unit). The graphic display of the belt tension meter shows the measured value as belt frequency in Hz. When the belt mass and length are entered, the pre-tension meter additionally displays the turbidity force in Newton. The intuitive graphic menu is visualized on the high-contrast display of the belt tension meter in six selectable languages. For further analysis and quality assurance purposes, the belt tension meter is equipped with a memory. Up to 750 data sets can be stored in the belt tension gauge memory in 15 order á 50 measured values. In this way, the data is not lost after a measurement in real time and can be saved in the belt tension meter for the next measurements.

APPLICATION AREAS FOR BELT VOLTAGE MEASURING DEVICES
The range of applications for the belt tension meter is large. For example, large motor shaft combinations, conveyors, lifting equipment, elevators, automotive and agricultural machinery can be tested.
The belt tension must be measured whenever machines and equipment are to be optimally maintained. The belt tension meter from PCE Instruments can be used to determine belt tensions of toothed belts as well as belt pulleys. Belt tension is an important parameter in the installation, installation, maintenance and repair of belt drives. For this reason, the belt tension should be checked regularly over the entire running time with the compact belt tension meter and adjusted if necessary. Only by using the pre-tension meter can a maximum service life of all machine components be ensured. Both too high and too low a belt tension can lead to damage. Regular inspection can significantly reduce the costs of unplanned downtime caused by bearing damage or defective belts. The use of a belt tension meter is therefore suitable for applications in the field of engine technology, industrial production, stepper motors, tool and machine engineering or also in the field of maintenance and servicing. In order to ensure long service life and high performance of equipment, machinery and equipment, it is important to regularly measure the belt tension of drive belts.

In addition to the charging unit, PCE Instruments offers the gooseneck sensor PCE-BTM 2000 SHL. The sensor features a long gooseneck and a spiral cable to allow access to difficult-to-access measurement points in built-up systems.

The spare sensor with a short gooseneck PCE-BTM 2000 SHS can be easily screwed to the measuring device PCE-BTM 2000. Owing to the flexible sensor neck hard to reach measuring points.

WAS IS THE BELT PRETENSION/PRETENSION?
Since several forces act on a belt drive, the most important forces on belt drives are named below in order to understand the significance of the pretension force. The belt connects a drive disc to a driven disc. The drive disk is driven by a motor which produces a torque and transmits this to the drive disk. The belt transfers this torque to the output disk in the form of a circumferential force. The following forces are important.

The circumferential force: The circumferential force corresponds to the useful force to be transferred from the belt. The circumferential force depends on the engine power applied and therefore on the torque, the engine speed and the pulley diameter. In order to maintain the force balance, the circumferential force causes the formation of different forces in the drums of the belt. The difference in forces between the load center and the idle center corresponds to the circumferential force transferred to the drive belt.

The friction force: The friction force on the drive disk ensures that the torque of the motor is transferred to the output disk via the belt. A usable torque is produced on the output disk, which corresponds to the product of circumferential force and half the diameter of the output disk.

The centrifugal force. The centrifugal force increases with increasing revolutions and ensures that the belt expands and thus looses grip. The centrifugal force is effective against the holding force in this case.

The pretension force: The pretension is different under dynamic conditions in the load center and in the idle center. In static state, the preload is identical in both turrets. The pretension must be set in static condition using a pre-tension gauge so that under dynamic conditions there is sufficient grip on the belt pulleys to ensure the transmission of power from the belt to the disc while taking into account the centrifugal forces acting on the belt during operation. However, the preload must not be set too high as this may cause belt damage and/or bearing damage under load. The correct pre-tension must be selected specifically for each belt and the appropriate application. In most cases, belt manufacturers specify the appropriate preload in the form of forces or frequencies. With a pre-tension meter, the required preload can then be determined exactly after installation and before commissioning of a belt drive.
