New 2026: Elegance and power at high speed – the series E 19
For the revolution of the rail traffic of the German Federal Railways in the late 1930s, the E 19 series was one of the fastest and most elegant electric locomotives of its time. For use on the continuously electrified route Berlin - Halle (Saale) - Munich a maximum speed of 180 km/h was planned, with reserves for over 200 km/h. On the steep ramps of the Franconian forest it should reach 60 km/h. The active operating time ended with the phasing out of the last locomotive E 19 002 in 1978. Today the E 19 01 has been given an impressive certificate of German electric locomotive history.
