Description
N-diesel railcar RegioShuttle 1 DB AG VI
New 2026: The Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS 1 is a diesel rail car for local passenger transport, which has become well known for its versatility and distinctive design with trapezoidal window belts. In Germany, the vehicles are classified as series 650 and are still characterized by regional traffic of many railway undertakings. The development of the Regio-Shuttle began in 1994 at the Research Institute for Rail Vehicles VÚKV in Prague on behalf of ABB Henschel and AEG Rail Vehicles. After the merger of both companies in 1996, the project was continued by Adtranz. With the acquisition of Adtranz by Bombardier Transportation in 2001, production was transferred to Stadler Rail for antitrust reasons. In 1996, the first series-production vehicles had been delivered – including four units with a floor height of 760 millimeters, which have since been operating reliably on the Schönbuchbahn. Deutsche Bahn commissioned a total of 79 Regio Shuttle in 1999. These were initially used by the DB ZugBus regional traffic Alb-Bodensee (RAB) from Tübingen, Friedrichshafen and Ulm. With more than 450 vehicles built and decades of use, the Stadler Regio Shuttle RS 1 is a symbol of reliability, efficiency and modular engineering in modern local rail passenger transport.
