Revell 05608 "Great Eastern" Watercraft assembly kit

Great Eastern: A giant of industrial history returns
It was far ahead of its time and is considered one of the most fascinating ships ever built. With the kit of the "Great Eastern" you have a real piece of modeling history in your hands. Manufactured with the original tools from the year 1963, this model represents the start of the demanding plastic modeling. As a strictly limited edition ("Limited Edition") this ocean giant comes in the classic packaging of the 60s – an absolute highlight for collectors looking for the nostalgic charm and challenge of historical kits.

The construction of the Great Eastern is a journey of discovery into the era of steam engines. You reconstruct the riveted hull, install the powerful paddle wheel boxes and blast up the five chimneys as well as the six masts. This model is not only a ship, it is a technical monument to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the brilliant designer of the 19. Century.

When the Great Eastern ran off the pile in 1858, it was by far the largest ship in the world, at a length of 211 meters – a record that lasted for 40 years. She was so huge that she could pick up 4,000 passengers and bake enough coal to round the world without refuel. Later, she gained world fame as a cable carrier, who laid the first permanent transatlantic cable, connecting Europe and America by telecommunication.
