Roco 70063 H0 Electric locomotive E 52 03 DB

Electric locomotive E 52 03 of the German Federal Railways. For the carriage of long passenger trains on the electrified Bavarian main trains, the DRG has obtained a heavy electric locomotive. From numerous designs it was decided to use a 2'BB2' locomotive, which would maintain the same engines as the freight train locomotive BR E 91, which was also planned. This new construction involved the previous construction of electric locomotives with a slow running large engine and decided on four smaller electric motors. Each engine group has two engines. A countershaft drives a blind shaft via slanted crank rods, which are coupled with two drive axles. The locomotive, which with 140 t is one of the heaviest electric locomotives ever built in Germany, produced 2,200 kW and had a maximum speed of 90 km/h.The manufacturers delivered the locomotives in 1924 /1925 to the group administration Bavaria of the DRG, which put them into operation as category EP 5 with numbers 21 501–535. In 1927 they were named E 52 01–35. The 29 specimens left at the Federal Railways after the war were designated as series 152 from 1968. In February 1973, the DB took the 152 014 as the last representative of this series.
