Description

Soft start-up devices are robust electronic control units for the gentle start-up of three-phase asynchronous machines. Two motor phases are influenced by phase control by thyristors in such a way that the currents can increase steadily. The engine torque also acts during ramp-up. This ensures that the drive can start without jerking. This prevents drive elements from being damaged because the sudden starting torque does not occur during direct activation. This property allows for a low-cost construction of the drive elements. After the start-up, the aging transistors are bridged by means of internal relay contacts in order to minimize the losses in the device. The soft-stop function is designed to extend the natural ramp-down time of the drive in order to prevent jerky stopping as well.

Note:
The speed setting of drives is not possible with these devices. Similarly, in the disengaged state, i.e. without load, no pronounced soft start-up behavior is achieved. If the power semiconductors are to be protected against short-circuits or ground faults during start-up, three super-fast fuses (see technical data) must be used. Otherwise, the usual line and motor protection measures must be applied. At high switching frequency
We recommend monitoring its winding temperature as a motor protection measure. The soft starter must not be operated with a capacitive load, such as Reactive power compensation, operated at the output. To ensure the safety of persons and systems, only suitably qualified personnel may work on this device.
