Description

Melt index Tester PCE-MFI 400 Melting index Tester up to +400 °C / Melting rate up to 400.0 g/10 min high Temperature stability / Weights included / 7" TFT touch display The melt index Tester from PCE Instruments is used for a quick test of the melt mass flow rate of plastics. The melt index tester is designed for incoming goods inspection as well as for continuous production monitoring. The clear display of all relevant parameters on the 7" touch display allows measurement results to be determined in a short time using the melt index tester. The automatic cutting function also contributes to the high reproducibility of the melt flow index test with the melt index tester. Already stored standard plastics save the user of the melting index test device annoying configuration processes; these include: PS, PP, PE, ABS, PC, PMMA and many more. In addition to the already integrated standard plastics, the test temperatures as well as test weights according to standard (ISO 1133) are stored in the melt index test device. Materials with material-specific parameters that have not been stored can be permanently added and stored in the melt index tester at any time. The melt index tester is therefore ideally suited for determining the melting flow index, which makes a statement about the flow behavior or viscosity of plastics at different temperatures and pressures. In this test according to ISO 1133, the mostly granulate-shaped sample is placed in a pre-heated cylinder and heated at a material-specific temperature. A piston with a defined mass presses the liquid melt through a nozzle with a defined diameter through its own weight. After a specified period of time, the measurement is stopped at the melt index tester and the mass flowing through the nozzle is determined by means of analysis scales, thus creating a mass/time value (g/10min), which is also referred to as MFI value. The melting flow index is determined to determine the flow behavior of thermoplastic plastics. The degree of polymerization can also be derived via the flow behavior, which in turn has an influence on the subsequent mechanical properties of the sprayed plastic. As plastics are partly sensitive to moisture, increased humidity of the granules during the melting process during injection molding can lead to shortened molecular chains and thus to poorer mechanical properties. Therefore, it is necessary to dry the granules to a suitable degree of moisture before injection molding to avoid any subsequent loss of quality on the finished product. The PCE Instruments melt index tester is therefore a very suitable tool for determining the melt mass flow rate for various thermoplastic plastics. This allows important parameters for later production to be determined and adapted as required even before production. The melting index of the test equipment thus contributes to the improvement of quality in the production process, reduces the scrap rate and thus contributes to a sustainable cost reduction.
