Description

Application
This insulation measuring device has a very wide range of applications. It can be used in housing construction as well as for testing industrial plants or traffic networks. Due to its characteristics, such as low battery consumption, charging during measurements, user-friendliness and high degree of protection, it is often used by electricians and maintenance teams, in the testing of motors, cables and street lighting as well as in the construction and maintenance of photovoltaic systems. It is also perfect for installation engineers and operators of telecommunications and grid systems who need to test the insulation of the shielding/sheath (UN ≤ 30 kV) for 5 minutes at a voltage of 5 kV.

Functions
The tester can be used for measuring the insulation resistance with an adjustable test voltage up to 5000 V. After the testing of lines, the load is discharged automatically after completion of the measurement. The MIC-5001 enables resistance measurement with a linearly increasing test voltage at 1 kV/s, according to EEE Std 95TM-2002. This function is called ramp test. In contrast to the maximum test voltage, this slow and uniform method protects the insulation from sudden "electrical stress". This process can detect damage that cannot be detected in the classical RISO resistance measurement. If the tested insulation is weak or defective, the ramp test allows the user to determine the maximum electrical strength. Moreover, this function is especially useful when testing rotating machines or surge arresters. An integrated voltmeter takes voltage measurements in the AC and DC range up to 750 V. A huge memory enables the storage of nearly 12 000 results. With the Sonel reader software, which can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website, it is possible to analyze the measurement results and display them graphically, e.g. as current or resistance time graph.

Key features
A major advantage of the device is that after charging the batteries once, a very long use is possible. Moreover, the user can charge the device during the measurement using an external power source, e.g. a power bank with 12 V/2 Ah.
