Description
Filament for ESD protection and safety in EX zones
Spectrum PLA ESD is a modern, antistatic 3D printing filament based on a modified PLA biopolymer which provides permanent protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) and sparking in hazardous (EX / ATEX) environments. Designed for applications where electronic safety, print accuracy and ease of use are key. Spectrum PLA ESD combines the eco-friendly features of PLA with protective features and ensures high rigidity, outstanding surface quality and fully predictable printing behavior.
Unlike conventional PLA filaments, Spectrum PLA ESD uses a permanent, non-migration antistatic formulation that remains independent of humidity. The Filament maintains its protection properties both in dry and damp environments and ensures stable and long-lasting protection of electronic components. This makes PLA ESD the ideal choice for precise industrial, laboratory and service oriented applications.
How Spectrum PLA ESD works
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is produced when electrical loads accumulate on the surface of a material and can damage sensitive electronic circuits. Spectrum PLA ESD effectively eliminates this risk by controlling and safely dissipating static charges.
3D printed parts manufactured with Spectrum PLA ESD show a surface resistance in the range of 10⁷ to 10⁹ Ω/sq, WAS corresponds to the following ranges:
- E9–E10 - Typical ESD Protection (Electrostatic Discharge Protection)
- E8–E9 – suitable for EX/ATEX safety, i.e. for applications in hazardous environments
These resistance values place Spectrum PLA ESD in the optimal range of function for ESD-safe materials and ensure an effective and controlled derivation of electrostatic charges without spark risk. The electrostatic energy is discharged in the form of low-energy corona discharges, WAS ensures complete protection of electronic components even without grounding.
Area of application
- Housings, brackets and covers for electronic equipment
- Tools and accessories for ESD protected areas
- Measuring instruments and service components
- Trays, containers and tools for ESD-safe zones
- Prototypes and components with permanent electrostatic protection
- Components and measuring devices for EX / ATEX environments
- Assembly elements in the chemical, energy and automotive industries
