Description
Wimbledon machine
Let the spark skip!
In the truest sense of the word, the generated spark becomes visible and audible when it passes over from electrode to electrode.
The influence machine - also known as the Wimbledon machine after its inventor - consists of 2 large circular discs, which are moved in opposite directions by means of a crank. The windows are parallel and have two brushes in each case, which touch the metal film of the discs. Two brushes absorb the loads of the brushes. The loads are stored in two Leiden bottles, as they are connected to the brushes and serve as a capacitor. The effect of the influence strengthens the charge on the metal foil. The charges of both discs influence each other.
If the tension between the Leiden bottles is high enough, there will be a spark on the spark gap between the Leiden bottles.
The Wimbledon machine is a very exciting and impressive experiment for demonstrating static electricity and influencing in the classroom.
The manual with detailed description is part of the product.
Tip
The influenza machine is used as a source of voltage for a large number of predominantly electrostatic tests, e.g. with the electrostatic test kit 50332.
