There´s a built-in (not replaceable) NiMH rechargeable battery. It is charged either with the power of the sun or simply via the crank handle and the dynamo.
Compact and robust
As a rule of thumb: 60 seconds of cranking is enough for about an hour of light. How the lamp is operated depends of course: The three cold white LEDs can be activated together, in flash mode or - to save energy - separately.
