DHL Worldwide Express was founded in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. The company name is composed of the first letters of the founders' surname. The three founders personally brought cargo papers by plane from San Francisco to Honolulu. The customs clearance of the corresponding ships could thus begin before the actual arrival of the ships. The success of this express service was founded on the dispatch of accompanying documents prior to the actual transport of goods. In 2002, DHL was taken over by Deutsche Post AG.

After Deutsche Post already had the majority of shares in Danzas, a re-branding ('3D integration«) brought together the three brands DHL, Deutsche Post and Danzas to form a global DHL brand. The models are therefore designed in the current design of the goods sender.
