Description
Diesel locomotive 212 176-2 from the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
In the 1950s the Deutsche Bundesbahn developed a diesel locomotive type program for the renewal of the car park. The main objective was to replace the steam traction on the still quite extensive branch network. For the mixed branch line service the single-engine series V 100 was developed with 1100-PS-motors. In parallel with this V 100.10, a total of 380 machines with a 1350 hp engine were supplied as V 100.20 from 1962 to 1965.
With the introduction of the computer number, the series designation of the stronger machines was changed to 212. The series 212 has weathered several color variations over time, from 1987 onwards Orient red became the standard color.
